Anak Krakatau Eruption Forces Flight Cancellations at Dhoho Airport

The eruption of Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait disrupted operations at Dhoho Airport in Kediri, East Java, on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026. Two flights were canceled because of the effects of volcanic ash.

The canceled services were IU 356 from Jakarta to Dhoho, scheduled to arrive at 11:50 a.m. local time, and IU 357 from Dhoho to Jakarta, scheduled to depart at 12:30 p.m.

Dhoho Airport General Manager Rahmat Yoni Saputra said the changes reflected the eruption’s impact on operations. “Flight safety and security are our priority,” Rahmat said. The airport urged passengers to check flight status and schedules through their airlines’ official channels before traveling.

Airport management continued monitoring the eruption and coordinating with BMKG, AirNav Indonesia, airlines and other relevant parties. The coordination focused on weather conditions, the possible spread of volcanic ash and the consequences for flight safety and operations. Rahmat said the airport was adjusting its operations in line with current conditions and guidance from authorities.

In Tangerang, Banten, InJourney Airports recorded delays to 209 scheduled aircraft movements at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The total included 160 domestic flights, 39 international flights and 10 cargo services. The airport activated its Service Recovery Activation program and provided food and light refreshments to affected passengers while coordination continued on the handling of subsequent flights.
