Anambra bans construction of unauthorised speed bumps

The Anambra State government has issued a stern warning against the erection of unauthorized speed bumps on public roads, mandating that all such installations must now be approved by the state government.

The government of Anambra State hereby informs the Ndị Anambra and the general public, that individuals and communities are no longer permitted to construct speed bumps on public roads without prior approval.

According to a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the decision stems from the indiscriminate construction of speed bumps by residents and communities, which has led to defacement of roads and adverse effects on road infrastructure and safety. The government emphasized that individuals and communities are no longer permitted to construct speed bumps without prior authorization.

All speed bumps and their locations must be approved by the state government. A uniform design for speed bumps will now have to be sought from the state’s Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

Under the new directive, all speed bumps and their chosen locations require state government approval. Furthermore, a uniform design for speed bumps will be developed and sought from the state's Ministry of Works and Infrastructure. Speed bumps will be strategically placed only in critical areas such as markets, churches, schools, and other locations as determined by the government.
