Anambra FA to stage novelty match for late chairman Ubah

The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) is set to honor the memory of its former chairman, the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, with a novelty match on August 1. The event marks the second anniversary of his passing and celebrates his significant contributions to football development in the state and Nigeria.

Senator Ubah, widely known as Ebubechukwu Uzo, led the ANSFA from 2016 to 2020. His tenure is remembered as a transformative period for football in Anambra. During this time, he launched the "One Family, One Footballer" initiative, a grassroots program aimed at identifying and nurturing young talent, which was introduced in both Nigeria and Russia during the 2018 World Cup.

Furthermore, Ubah facilitated a landmark partnership between his club, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, and English Premier League side West Ham United in August 2016. He viewed this collaboration as a crucial step for advancing his club, Nigerian football, and the sport across Africa. His leadership also saw FC Ifeanyi Ubah achieve considerable success, including winning the 2016 Federation Cup and earning a spot in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup.

The memorial match, organized by the Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi-led ANSFA board, will be held at the FC Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium in Nnewi. It serves as a tribute to Ubah's enduring legacy and his impact on the football landscape.
