Enekwechi reaches shot put final, Olajide into 200m semis

Nigeria achieved a positive outing in athletics at the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday, with several athletes advancing in their respective events. Chukwuebuka Enekwechi secured his place in the men's shot put final, demonstrating strong form by topping Group B with a throw of 20.03 meters. This automatic qualification sets him up to potentially improve on his 2018 silver medal.

On the track, Olayinka Olajide and Jennifer Obi Chukwuka both progressed to the women's 200m semi-finals. Olajide finished third in her heat with a time of 23.62 seconds, while Chukwuka won her heat in a personal best of 23.26 seconds. Their advancement ensures Nigeria has double representation in the 200m semi-finals, enhancing their medal chase.

Further boosting Nigeria's sprint prospects, Udodi Onwuzurike also advanced to the men's 200m semi-finals by clocking 20.31 seconds in his heat. Although Israel Okon had also qualified, he withdrew due to injury. The performances of these athletes highlight Nigeria's potential for success in the ongoing athletics competition.
