Anambra inaugurates 2027 budget committee

The Anambra State Government has officially launched its 2027 Budget Committee, signaling a proactive approach to fiscal planning. The committee has been charged with ensuring that the state's upcoming appropriation bill is grounded in transparency, fiscal discipline, and a rigorous process of evidence-based project selection.

The ministry opted for a physical inauguration to build teamwork and shared ownership. Members are reminded that their selection was merit-based and that they must serve the collective interest of Anambra.

Chukwukadibia Okoye, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, inaugurated the committee, emphasizing the need for focus, commitment, and a strong sense of ownership among its members. He stressed that the 2027 budget process must be driven by integrity and remain people-centered, serving as the primary instrument for translating government policies into tangible development outcomes that deliver measurable impact for residents and advance Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s development agenda.

Okoye highlighted that the physical inauguration was intended to foster teamwork and shared ownership. He reminded members that their selection was merit-based and that they must prioritize the collective interests of Anambra State. The committee is urged to focus on evidence-based project selection that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of the populace, ensuring projects are chosen for their developmental impact.

Key directives for the committee include prioritizing early budget preparation, fostering effective synergy among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), ensuring accurate costing, and making realistic projections. The Commissioner also called for prudent spending, smart prioritization of critical needs such as erosion control, and efforts to grow internally generated revenue (IGR) and attract donor support. The Permanent Secretary, Chinyere Nwabachili, presented the 2027 budget calendar, outlining the process from community submissions to legislative approval, with the ministry pledging full support to the committee's objectives.
