Andalusian derby brings shared urgency for Almería and Cádiz to break away

Almería and Cádiz meet on Sunday in a regional derby that both teams approach with the same need: to move away from the middle of the standings and build momentum.

Almería have won once and lost their last two matches, against Tenerife and Sabadell. Coach Xavier García Pimienta wants his side to recover its confidence, intensity and authority. The team also needs to make possession more productive by using the ball to advance, create chances and put pressure on Cádiz.

The home side are also seeking to reconnect with their supporters after two consecutive setbacks. Cádiz, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with Valladolid last Sunday. Albert Celades's team remains competitive but inconsistent and is still looking for a stronger performance.

Celades has worked with a largely settled squad after Cádiz brought in 17 players during the transfer window while also giving opportunities to academy players. He considers it important for the team to develop its own identity and avoid being defined by differences in clubs' budgets or potential.

The new arrivals have expanded Cádiz's options, although not everyone is available. Uruguayan forward Gonzalo Petit is still recovering, and Moroccan midfielder Aimén Moueffek is not yet in ideal condition. French midfielder Marco-Oliver Doué is available to play.
