Andhra Man Missing in Nepal After Flash Floods; Family Seeks Help

Balasubrahmanyam, a resident of Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh, has been missing in Nepal since August 26 after devastating flash floods disrupted communication in the region. His family has been unable to contact him, as his mobile phone is reportedly not working.

According to his brother, Srikanth, Balasubrahmanyam had traveled to Nepal with a group associated with the Isha Foundation. He left Kathmandu on August 14 and last communicated with his family on the morning of August 26, stating that everything was fine and that the group was scheduled to arrive in Hyderabad on August 29.

The family later learned that the group was at the Gyirong Immigration Centre when a flash flood occurred in the area. They have since informed the office of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and are in contact with the Indian Embassy and government authorities to ascertain Balasubrahmanyam's whereabouts. Srikanth mentioned that the government is actively working to trace and assist people stranded in the affected areas and has provided helpline numbers, which the family is using to gather information.

Meanwhile, the situation remains critical along the Nepal-China border, with extensive flooding and communication disruptions. The Nepal Army, Police, and Armed Police Force are conducting large-scale rescue operations, utilizing approximately 15 helicopters. India has offered humanitarian assistance, dispatching 10 tonnes of relief material to Nepal via an IAF C-130J aircraft. The Bhavan in New Delhi continues to coordinate with Indian missions, Nepalese and Chinese authorities, and pilgrimage organizations to locate, rescue, and ensure the safe evacuation of affected Andhra Pradesh pilgrims.
