André Rankel Appointed Head Coach of German Men's Ice Hockey Team

André Rankel, a prominent figure in German ice hockey, has been named the new head coach of the men's national team, the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) announced. This appointment follows a period of underwhelming results for the team, which had previously achieved a surprising silver medal at the 2023 World Championship but faltered in subsequent tournaments.

Rankel, 41, brings a wealth of experience as a former national player and a decorated career with Eisbären Berlin, where he won the German championship seven times. He also served as an assistant coach for the Berlin team. This marks his first foray into a head coaching position at the national level, a significant step in his coaching career.

The DEB is entrusting Rankel with the crucial task of revitalizing the team's performance, particularly with the 2027 Ice Hockey World Championship scheduled to be hosted in Germany. Rankel's predecessor, Harold Kreis, has been succeeded by this appointment.
