Androulakis: Prime Minister must achieve similar condemnation of Turkey at the European Council

Nikos Androulakis, president of Greece's PASOK party, has called on Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to ensure a condemnation of Turkey at the upcoming European Council meeting. This call follows the European Parliament's recent condemnation of Turkey's "Blue Homeland" doctrine, a move Androulakis hailed as a national success.

Speaking at a pre-summit meeting of the European Socialist Party, Androulakis characterized the Turkish National Assembly's codification of the "Blue Homeland" doctrine as a direct challenge to Greece's sovereign rights and international law. He noted that the European Parliament's condemnation was achieved through the initiative of PASOK and the Group of Progressive Socialists and Democrats.

"Instead of the government celebrating a truly national success," Androulakis stated, "it would be advisable for the prime minister to ensure that a similar decision is included in the European Council's conclusions." He emphasized that European solidarity cannot be selective but must be consistently and equitably applied to all member states.

Androulakis also addressed the European budget, highlighting the need to reduce social and regional inequalities. He specifically stressed the importance of avoiding cuts to the Cohesion Fund and the Common Agricultural Policy.
