Andy López Beltrán Denies Early Campaigning, Cites Father's Influence; PRD to File Complaint

Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has rejected claims that his ongoing tours of communities in Tabasco constitute early campaigning. He asserts that his visits are solely intended to disseminate truthful information to the citizenry, contrasting this with what he describes as the spread of falsehoods by traditional media.

Speaking via his Instagram account, López Beltrán announced his itinerary, which included visits to four localities within the VI electoral district, encompassing the municipalities of Centro, Jalapa, Teapa, and Tacotalpa. He stated, "I take this opportunity to clarify to our detractors that our home visits have no other objective than to inform the citizenry. If traditional media outlets do nothing but spread lies, it is our duty to go house to house, bringing true information, bringing our newspaper Regeneración."

López Beltrán, who resides in Teapa, Tabasco, and aspires to become a federal deputy, explained that this method of direct engagement was instilled in him by his father. He argued that visiting homes and citizens should not be misconstrued as premature campaigning but rather as a normal and frequent practice for politicians. "They do not do it because they are not accustomed to showing their faces to the people," he added.

Despite López Beltrán's defense, the state leadership of the PRD (Party of the Democratic Revolution) has announced its intention to file a complaint with electoral authorities. The PRD views his extensive tours as a clear violation of electoral laws prohibiting early campaign activities.
