Another Chinese Plan to Conquer Europe’s Car Industry Will Use Local Volvo Plants

Geely is preparing to produce vehicles from its luxury brands at Volvo factories in Europe from 2028, according to the report. The plan offers another example of how Chinese automakers could expand on the continent without relying solely on imported cars.

Europe has been trying to push back against what the article calls a Chinese “invasion” of its car market. Raising import tariffs is one of the measures under consideration, but manufacturing inside Europe could make that approach harder to enforce.

The report does not identify which luxury models Geely would produce or specify which Volvo plants would be involved. It frames the proposed use of Volvo’s local production facilities as a way for the Chinese group to establish a stronger manufacturing presence in Europe.
