Another Major Fire Hits Bernsgrün Farm as Pig Barn Burns

A pig barn stood completely ablaze at an agricultural operation in Bernsgrün, prompting warnings about toxic smoke and a major firefighting response.

The fire broke out in the Greiz district, in the city of Zeulenroda-Triebes. The Gera central control center warned residents not to breathe the smoke and advised them to avoid the affected area, close windows and doors, and switch off ventilation systems and air conditioning.

The Bernsgrün fire brigade said neighboring units were already responding to another major operation at the site. The flames reportedly rose several meters high, while the smoke column could be seen from more than 30 kilometers away.

According to initial reports, firefighters managed to rescue some animals before the building collapsed shortly after their arrival. Several hundred animals were believed to have died. Media reports said the same agricultural operation had suffered another fire two weeks earlier, causing damage estimated at millions of euros.
