Another Sheltered Workshop Says It Was Let Down as Orders for Mooncake Boxes Failed to Materialize

The chief executive of a sheltered-workshop association in Kaohsiung says her group ordered packaging materials for 300 Mid-Autumn gift boxes, only to receive no clear answer from the Kuomintang.

Her account follows a similar complaint from the Manman Hengchun sheltered workshop. Kuomintang chair Cheng Li-wun had said the party would take all the orders originally planned for the presidential office, but the workshop later said the party had asked about 300 boxes without actually placing an order.

The Kaohsiung association’s executive said the party’s Taipei headquarters had clearly expressed interest by phone. One return call reached the staff member, who said the matter would be checked with superiors. Later calls were answered by other office workers, who said the staff member was unavailable. No one ultimately confirmed whether the order would go ahead.

A prompt explanation, she said, would have helped the association avoid preparing stock and limit its losses.

The dispute prompted angry reactions online, including accusations that the party had treated vulnerable groups carelessly. The association’s executive said the lack of a response was particularly difficult because the party was also claiming that all the gift boxes had already been ordered, a statement she said could understandably raise public doubts.

A buyer absolutely has the right to say they will not place the order, but basic integrity means that if they initially intend to order and later decide not to, they should clearly tell the seller.
