Another UK heatwave looms after cooler end to weekend

Sunday offers a reprieve from the heat for the entire UK, with cloudy conditions and scattered rain expected in southern and eastern regions. Temperatures will fall by a couple of degrees across the board. For some locations, including Usk in Monmouthshire and Exeter in Devon, this marks the end of their third heatwave of the year, as temperatures are forecast to dip below the heatwave threshold for the first time in 21 consecutive days.

The day will be breezier and fresher, with temperatures generally in the mid-20s Celsius for the UK's southeast and mid-teens Celsius further north. However, this relief is anticipated to be short-lived as high pressure is set to build near the UK's south next week. This weather pattern will stall rain-bearing fronts, confining any wet weather primarily to northern and western areas, with a particular focus on northwest Scotland.

In contrast, southern parts of the UK are expected to see temperatures climb again. Tapping into heat from the continent, the UK is likely to enter another heatwave. Temperatures in England and Wales could peak around 25-32C for much of the upcoming week, indicating a return to significantly warmer conditions for many.
