Anthropic reportedly in talks to buy Israeli AI startup Decart for $6B

American AI giant Anthropic is reportedly in negotiations to acquire the Israeli artificial intelligence startup Decart for as much as $6 billion. The deal, if finalized, would represent Anthropic's first acquisition in Israel and mark a significant expansion for the developer of the Claude chatbot.

Decart, founded just three years ago by former Israeli military intelligence unit 8200 members Dean Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev, has created a software platform designed to enhance the efficiency of training large-scale generative AI models. The technology aims to optimize the use of high-performance chips from companies like Nvidia, Amazon, and Google, potentially reducing the substantial computing costs associated with AI development.

This potential acquisition comes as AI companies like Anthropic and OpenAI are investing billions in data centers and advanced computing infrastructure to keep pace with the rapidly growing demand for their AI tools. Decart's technology could prove crucial in helping Anthropic manage the increasing computational needs for its large language models.

While the talks are not yet finalized and could still collapse, the potential deal has generated significant interest. Previously, reports suggested that SpaceX and chip giant Nvidia were also vying to acquire the Israeli startup. Decart is also developing its own generative AI foundation models, which aim to create video from human imagination with minimal coding, and has applications in areas like virtual try-ons for e-commerce and dynamic environments for gaming.
