Anwar apologizes for missing Tabung Haji RCI special session

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has conveyed his apologies for his absence from a special parliamentary session convened to discuss the report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) concerning Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), the Malaysian Hajj pilgrims fund.

Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, Senior Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, stated that Anwar wishes for the proceedings to go smoothly. He added that the Prime Minister will be closely monitoring the debate to ensure the continued safeguarding of the Islamic institution's trust. The statement also conveyed Anwar's gratitude for well-wishes and birthday greetings received on his 79th birthday the previous day.

Anwar's health has shown improvement following a recent laparoscopic surgery to treat an abdominal hernia. The procedure was elective and performed by a team of medical specialists. He is currently undergoing physiotherapy under their supervision, and his condition is reported to be getting better.

While unable to attend the session in person, Anwar's commitment to the integrity and management of Tabung Haji remains evident. The RCI report's findings and the subsequent parliamentary debate are expected to address critical aspects of the fund's governance and operations, ensuring accountability and public confidence in the institution that serves millions of Malaysian Muslims.
