Anwar discusses Islamic scholarship, propagation with Al-Azhar Grand Imam

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a phone call with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar University, Prof. Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyeb, to discuss the continuation of Islamic propagation and education efforts. Anwar emphasized the significance of the Grand Imam's guidance in elevating Islamic scholarship and spreading its message of mercy globally.

We also spoke about the continuation of propagation and education efforts in broadening the understanding of Islam.

During their conversation, they also touched upon the possibility of a future meeting, either in Cairo or Kuala Lumpur, to further these initiatives for the benefit of the Muslim world. Anwar recalled the profound impact of the Grand Imam's previous visit to Malaysia.

I also hope to meet the Grand Imam again, whether in Cairo or Kuala Lumpur, to continue propagation efforts and the development of knowledge for the benefit of the global Muslim community.

Anwar also conveyed his gratitude for the Grand Imam's well wishes regarding his recent surgery, noting that the procedure and recovery were progressing well. In a separate update, Anwar mentioned speaking with Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Muslim Elders Council, who also inquired about his health. Anwar, in turn, asked about Abdelsalam's wife's health and offered prayers for her recovery.

I am very appreciative of the friendship, support, and trust shown by Mohamed Abdelsalam and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif.

The discussions also covered strengthening ties between Malaysia and Al-Azhar, focusing on promoting a moderate, independent, and authoritative understanding of Islam. Anwar expressed his appreciation for the friendship and support from both Abdelsalam and the Grand Imam, vowing to continue strengthening their cooperation for the welfare of Muslims and global well-being. The Prime Minister is currently in Brunei for a two-day working visit.
