Anwar has not met Zahid to discuss state elections

Pakatan Harapan President Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that discussions regarding the upcoming state elections have not yet taken place with Barisan Nasional Chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. When questioned by the media, Anwar briefly stated, "Not yet, not yet," regarding a meeting with Ahmad Zahid to deliberate on the state polls.

Earlier, Johor BN Chairman and Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that BN Johor would contest all 56 State Legislative Assembly seats in the Johor state election. This decision reportedly received approval from the party's top leadership. In the 15th Johor state election in March 2022, BN formed the state government by winning 40 out of 56 seats. Pakatan Harapan won 12 seats, with DAP taking 10, PKR and Amanah securing one each. Perikatan Nasional won three seats, and MUDA secured one.

The Johor State Legislative Assembly is expected to dissolve automatically on April 21 next year. Following this, Anwar indicated during a recent visit to Johor that he would consult with Ahmad Zahid concerning BN and PH Johor's stance on contesting the upcoming Johor state election independently. Anwar expressed hope that the negotiations would proceed smoothly for the benefit of both parties.
