APC confirms Shettima as Tinubu's running mate for 2027 election

Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally confirmed Vice President Kashim Shettima will serve as President Bola Tinubu's running mate for the 2027 presidential election. The announcement, made Friday during a ceremony in Abuja, ends months of speculation about the party's ticket.

During the event, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima's presidential nomination forms were presented. Ibrahim Masari, Tinubu's Special Adviser on Political Matters, submitted the forms on the president's behalf. APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda hailed the event as a "defining moment" for the party, reaffirming its dedication to the "Renewed Hope Agenda" and the progress being made across the country.

The gathering included prominent APC leaders and stakeholders, such as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, and several other state governors. Yilwatda described the atmosphere as one of "unity, confidence and shared purpose," emphasizing the party's focus on strengthening grassroots support and consolidating achievements for a more prosperous, secure, and inclusive Nigeria.

The APC's decision to retain the Tinubu-Shettima ticket officially dismisses rumors that the president might replace Shettima with a Northern Christian candidate to address concerns about the party's Muslim-Muslim ticket. This confirmation sets the stage for the APC's preparations for the 2027 general election.
