APC differs as Ekiti PDP candidate knocks Oyebanji over achievements

Ekiti State's opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has launched a sharp critique against Governor Biodun Oyebanji's All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, accusing it of failing to provide tangible dividends of democracy. PDP governorship candidate Oluwole Oluyede contends that the state's resources have not been matched with impactful development projects that directly benefit the populace. He pointed to the absence of any major project inaugurations by President Bola Tinubu in Ekiti as evidence of a lack of substantial achievements on the ground, contrasting it with other states where such presidential visits have occurred.

Ekiti deserved a government that prioritises their welfare and channels public funds into projects that have a direct impact on their daily lives, which PDP will provide.

Oluyede's media team stated that Ekiti deserves a government that prioritizes citizen welfare and channels public funds into projects with a direct impact. The PDP candidate expressed disappointment over the perceived inability of the Oyebanji administration to showcase landmark projects, suggesting a disconnect between governance and measurable progress. He emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in how state resources are utilized, arguing that leadership should be defined by tangible outcomes rather than public relations exercises.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to point to a single landmark project in Ekiti that would warrant presidential commissioning. Instead, what we see are repeated visits to the Presidency and well-publicised photographs that offer little value to the ordinary citizens.

However, the ruling APC has pushed back against these accusations. APC State Publicity Secretary Segun Dipe dismissed Oluyede's criticisms as predictable pronouncements from the opposition. Dipe challenged the PDP candidate, who he suggested spends considerable time abroad, to physically visit Ekiti State and witness the development projects firsthand. He specifically cited road construction and electrification projects as clear indicators of the dividends of democracy being delivered to the people, urging Oluyede to engage with the reality on the ground rather than relying on distant observations.

The absence of such a project inauguration in Ekiti nearly three years into the Oyebanji administration raises concerns about the utilisation of state resources. Ekiti people deserve to know how their resources are being used. There must be accountability and transparency in governance. Leadership must be about measurable progress, not public relations.
