APC governors pledge to secure Tinubu's re-election in 2027

Governors from Nigeria's All Progressives Congress (APC) have formally accepted the responsibility for ensuring President Bola Tinubu's re-election in the 2027 general election. This commitment was made following a meeting between the President and the APC governors in Abuja, shortly after the 160th National Economic Council meeting.

Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, articulated the consensus, stating that the governors are "solidly behind Mr. President." He emphasized that the ultimate success of the election rests on the shoulders of governors at the state level, who are expected to identify and implement necessary strategies for a "successful and colourful campaign."

What we have agreed with Mr President is that he will be delivered. All the APC governors are solidly behind Mr President. To that extent, governors are expected to deliver their states, and they know where the shoe pinches.

Uzodinma explained that electoral victory is a product of coordinated efforts, combining subnational mobilization with national-level coordination. "The responsibility of delivering the election lies on the shoulders of the governors at the subnational level, and it is a combination of what happens at the subnational level and the push at the national level that will yield the result we are looking for," he said.

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule echoed this sentiment, highlighting that elections are won in the states, not Abuja. He affirmed that governors would lead the campaign efforts within their respective states, working in conjunction with the party's campaign council.

Beyond political strategy, the meeting also addressed critical governance issues, with a significant portion of the discussion dedicated to strategies for reducing the cost of living for Nigerians. Key areas of focus included transportation costs, food security, agricultural development, and ensuring that the benefits of various national reforms reach the populace. The governors also conducted an impact assessment of ongoing reforms, identifying areas needing improvement and expressing satisfaction with the discussions.

Elections are not in Abuja. They are at the states. So the governors take the lead in this campaign at the various states, and the campaign council is going to look into it, and they will do whatever it is that needs to be done to make sure that is done.
