APC inaugurates Osun campaign council, declares election ‘must-win’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially launched its national campaign council for the upcoming Osun State governorship election, scheduled for August 15, 2026. The party has declared the poll a "must-win" contest, viewing it as a critical indicator of its readiness for the 2027 general elections.

No political party can boast of the number of governors, National Assembly members, local government chairmen, councillors, former governors and former National Assembly members that we have. We have them in abundance.

During the inauguration in Abuja, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda emphasized the party's strategy to deploy its robust political structures and extensive grassroots network to ensure victory for its governorship candidate, Munirudeen Oyebamiji, also known as AMBO. The 276-member campaign council is headed by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum.

Yilwatda asserted that the APC is Nigeria's most formidable political party, possessing the necessary experience, leadership, and nationwide structures to win elections at all levels. "No political party can boast of the number of governors, National Assembly members, local government chairmen, councillors, former governors and former National Assembly members that we have. We have them in abundance," he stated.

This is our litmus test. It will measure our level of preparedness for 2027. It will be our practice ground and our rehearsal for the political machine we are preparing for the general election.

The APC chairman described the Osun election as the party's final electoral engagement before the 2027 general elections, likening it to a "litmus test" and a "practice ground" for their campaign machinery. He announced plans for intensive person-to-person and house-to-house campaigns across Osun, utilizing party officials and structures to mobilize support from all residents, regardless of their background. Governors, National Assembly members, and state lawmakers will participate in this grassroots mobilization effort.

We will do person-to-person campaigns. We will go house to house. There is no tribe, no language and no resident in Osun, whether indigene or non-indigene, who does not have an APC member that can knock on the door and persuade that person to support us.
