APC jittery over opposition parties electoral push – ADC chairman

The Niger State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ahmed El-Waziri, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating the removal of opposition party billboards and posters. El-Waziri alleged that this action stems from the APC's "jittery" state over the growing presence and strength of opposition parties, particularly the ADC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

We were here on Tuesday. We were here on Wednesday, and by the grace of God, we’ll continue to be here until we have all what we want to win the 2027 elections.

Speaking at a media briefing in Minna, El-Waziri stated that the ADC is prepared to challenge the APC for power at both state and federal levels, presenting itself as a viable alternative to what he described as the "poor governance" of the current administration. He highlighted the masses' dissatisfaction with the prevailing poverty and insecurity as reasons for the ADC's strong backing.

We are a formidable alternatively to the present administration. We have the backing of everyone in this nation, especially the masses. The masses have seen what has been going on in terms of poverty, in terms of insecurity that has bedeviled the nation.

El-Waziri further claimed that the federal government's actions against the ADC are a direct result of the party's increasing influence. He pointed to instances where opposition parties face legal challenges and conflicting court rulings, suggesting a deliberate effort by the ruling party to destabilize them. The ADC chairman expressed confidence that despite these efforts, the ADC is "blessed" and enjoys popular support, evidenced by people joining the party even with an incumbent government.

Don’t you know that some of our billboards have been pulled down? Do you know the reason? Although, 19th of August is not yet here. By 19th August , I repeat, by 19th August , nobody will ever say anything bad about ADC again. But if we do anything that is against the electoral act, we’ll be liable to punishment. This is why you have not seen us take off.
