Appeals Court to Expedite Høiby Release Case

The Borgarting Court of Appeal will expedite the case concerning the release of Marius Borg Høiby from custody, with a ruling expected by Tuesday or Wednesday. The expedited process follows the Oslo District Court's decision on Monday evening to release Crown Princess Mette-Marit's son.

Following the district court's decision, the prosecution immediately appealed the ruling and requested "stayed effect." This means Høiby will remain in custody until the courts definitively decide on his release. The case could potentially proceed to the Supreme Court before a final, legally binding decision is made.

On Tuesday morning, the Borgarting Court of Appeal confirmed it had received the appeal and all related case documents. The court stated that appeals against rulings in criminal cases are handled in writing at the Court of Appeal level. The court aims to deliver its decision on the matter within the current day or the next.

Marius Borg Høiby, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, was taken into custody, leading to the district court's initial decision for his release. The prosecution's appeal now places his immediate freedom on hold, pending further judicial review.
