Arab nations, MWL welcome UN statement condemning Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Arab nations and the Muslim World League (MWL) have voiced strong support for a recent UN Security Council statement that condemned Houthi militia attacks against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping.

The MWL welcomed the August 7 statement, with Secretary-General Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa stressing the need to adhere to relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216, respect Yemen’s sovereignty, and reject actions that threaten regional security and maritime navigation.

The MWL, through its Secretary-General Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, welcomed the August 7 statement. Al-Issa stressed the importance of following relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216, respecting Yemen's sovereignty, and rejecting actions that jeopardize regional security and maritime navigation. He affirmed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, backing its efforts to defend its security and sovereignty and protect its population, while also supporting the legitimate Yemeni government and international initiatives for peace in Yemen.

Al-Issa reiterated full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to deter aggression, safeguard its security and sovereignty, and protect its citizens and residents.

Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain echoed these sentiments. Their foreign ministries highlighted the UN statement's focus on international law, UN Security Council resolutions, and respect for Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity. All three nations reiterated their solidarity with Saudi Arabia, endorsing its security measures and condemning actions that threaten regional stability and freedom of navigation. They also reaffirmed their support for Yemen's legitimate government and UN-led peace efforts.

Kuwait also welcomed the statement, with its Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighting its emphasis on upholding international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216, and respecting Yemen’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

Bahrain specifically noted Saudi Arabia's diplomatic, developmental, and humanitarian contributions to Yemen and its role in establishing the Multinational Maritime Defense Coalition. The statement from Bahrain underscored that Saudi Arabia's security is intrinsically linked to the security of Bahrain and all Gulf states.
