Areguá Opens Eight Heritage Houses for "Casco Abierto" Tour

The historic city of Areguá, Paraguay, is set to open its doors this Sunday, July 26, for a special event called "Casco Abierto." This initiative invites the public to explore eight significant heritage houses, offering a unique glimpse into the architectural legacy and historical memory that define the capital of the Central Department.

Casco Abierto is an initiative that proposes to make known the history, architecture, and memory of the city through a guided tour.

The guided tours will be led by architect Laurie Alice Vera Jiménez, an alumna of the National University of Asunción's Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Art. Vera Jiménez, who has specialized in the history and heritage of Areguá, will share insights into the architecture, historical context, and stories held within each property. Her expertise, including her authorship of the book "Patrimonio Arquitectónico y Memoria del Centro Histórico de Areguá," promises an enriching educational experience.

Organized by the "Pobladores por el Casco Histórico de Areguá" commission, the event aims to foster a deeper connection between the community and its cultural heritage. The commission is dedicated to the protection, dissemination, and valorization of the city's architectural treasures. Despite the capacity limitations of the historic homes, the event has already garnered significant interest, with over 60 people registered.

Some of these homes will specially open their doors to share the stories they hold with visitors and promote the appreciation of cultural heritage.

To ensure an intimate and informative experience, the tours will be conducted in small groups of 25, selected based on registration order. "Casco Abierto" seeks not only to be a historical tour but also to strengthen the collective memory of Areguá by highlighting the importance of preserving these cultural assets. The participation of homeowners who open their private residences is crucial to the success of this initiative, contributing to the broader awareness of heritage conservation.
