Argentina assists nearly 100 citizens affected by Dominican Republic hotel fire

The Argentine government is actively assisting nearly 100 of its citizens who were impacted by a significant fire at a hotel in the Dominican Republic. The blaze, which broke out at the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach hotel in the popular coastal town of Bayahibe, has led to the loss of personal belongings and documentation for many Argentine tourists.

Argentina's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the consular section of its embassy in the Dominican Republic is coordinating efforts with local authorities. Their primary focus is on helping affected citizens retrieve or replace essential documents and personal items. The embassy is also facilitating the issuance of emergency travel documents for those who require them to return home or continue their travels.

The fire, the origin of which remains unknown, spread rapidly due to the thatched roofs common in the hotel's common areas. The hotel housed 1,690 guests at the time of the incident. Tragically, one Italian guest, Francesca Valentino, died as a result of smoke inhalation.

Argentine authorities expressed their gratitude for the swift assistance and ongoing collaboration provided by the Dominican Republic's authorities. They also conveyed their deep regret over the incident. Guests affected by the fire have been relocated to alternative accommodations, including the neighboring Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace and other hotels in the Bayahíbe and Miches areas.
