Argentina issues yellow alert for extreme cold on August 24

Argentina's National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a yellow alert for extreme cold on Monday, August 24, warning of potential health risks. The alert covers Buenos Aires province, southeastern Entre Ríos, western Santa Cruz, and Tierra del Fuego, including the Falkland Islands. The SMN stated that these temperatures can be dangerous, particularly for children, individuals over 65, and those with chronic illnesses.

The SMN recommends avoiding prolonged exposure to the cold and wearing multiple layers of clothing if going outside. It also advises keeping homes safely heated, generating body heat through movement, drinking plenty of fluids, avoiding alcohol, and paying special attention to vulnerable populations. If someone is affected by the cold, they should not self-medicate and should consult a doctor or visit the nearest health center.

For Buenos Aires city, the forecast predicted a low of 5°C and a high of 13°C, with partly cloudy skies and light winds. A slight temperature increase is expected on Tuesday. In Buenos Aires province, temperatures were forecast between 1°C and 12°C, with similar sky conditions. No precipitation is expected until Thursday.

Forecasts for other regions included Córdoba (7°C-18°C), Tucumán (10°C-23°C), Santa Fe (7°C-16°C), Entre Ríos (5°C-16°C), Jujuy (9°C-18°C), Salta (9°C-20°C), Misiones (8°C-20°C), La Rioja (7°C-19°C), Santiago del Estero (10°C-22°C), San Luis (7°C-21°C), San Juan (6°C-22°C), and Mendoza (6°C-22°C).
