Argentina names Fernando Subirats new undersecretary of Communication and Public Media

The Argentine government has appointed Fernando Subirats as the new undersecretary of Communication and Public Media, a role that falls under the Secretariat of Communication and Media led by Fabián Fernández. The designation, formalized by Decree 649/2026, takes effect on August 1, 2026.

Subirats brings a wealth of experience to the position, having previously served as the director of Radio Nacional and its 102 stations since June of the previous year. His background includes extensive work in both journalistic and managerial capacities within media holdings and radio stations. He is a journalist, producer, university professor, and social psychologist.

His career highlights include serving as the journalistic manager for Alpha Media Group from January 2019 to June 2025, overseeing prominent radio stations like Rivadavia, Rock & Pop, and Splendid, as well as the local edition of Newsweek and the Noticias Argentinas agency. He also held content and programming management roles at Radio Rivadavia and previously served in leadership positions at Radio Nacional.

This appointment coincides with a restructuring of the Presidential Press Secretariat, now under the direction of Adrián Ravier, President Milei's spokesperson. The changes, outlined in Decree 653/2026, consolidate various dependencies into a new organization under the Undersecretariat of Discourse, Monitoring, and Digital Communication. This new structure includes national directorates for discourse, monitoring and analysis, and digital communication, aiming to streamline presidential messaging and online presence.
