Argentina's agro sector urged to seize global opportunities

Argentina's agricultural sector must "capture opportunities" presented by the evolving global landscape, according to Marcelo Torres, president of the Argentine Association of Direct Seeding Producers (Aapresid). Speaking at the 34th Aapresid Congress in Rosario, Torres emphasized that Argentina is building economic foundations that can leverage new international scenarios.

He urged for clear regulations, improved infrastructure, and reduced tax burdens to enable the agricultural sector to achieve significant growth. The congress, themed "Our Soil, Our Voice," brought together representatives from across the agro-industrial chain, including Secretary of Agriculture Sergio Iraeta, Santa Fe Governor Maximiliano Pullaro, and Rosario Mayor Pablo Javkin.

Torres described a challenging global context for agriculture, citing low producer profitability, increasing bureaucratic hurdles, climate change impacts, the need for technological adoption, and growing consumer demands for sustainable food production. However, he also pointed to geopolitical conflicts and trade disputes as potential opportunities for food and energy exporters like Argentina.

He stressed the importance of aligning economic stabilization with a strategy for international integration, noting that while building economic foundations may not be immediately visible, it is essential for future growth in a fragmented world.

The challenge we face is that we are building the foundations; when one builds foundations, not much is visible above, but without foundations, without an ordered economy, surely none of this will be possible. We have to understand how this world is settling and see how we can insert ourselves into this fragmented world and capture opportunities.
