Argentina's Fernández sets grim World Cup final record with red card

This ejection is the first in a World Cup final since 2010, when the Netherlands' John Heitinga was sent off against Spain. Fernández joins a list of notable players who have faced similar fates in finals, including France's Zinedine Zidane and Marcel Desailly, Argentina's Gustavo Dezotti and Pedro Monzón, and Heitinga.

Fernández's dismissal also contributed to Argentina setting another record: the team with the most red cards issued in World Cup finals.
