Argentina's government confidence rebounds in August after July dip

Argentina's government confidence index saw a notable rebound in August, climbing 6.4% from the previous month after a dip in July. The Índice de Confianza en el Gobierno (ICG), compiled monthly by the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT), reached 2.06 points on a scale of 0 to 5. This marks a recovery from July's 1.94 points, which represented a 6.5% decrease.

According to the UTDT, the current confidence level for President Javier Milei's administration at 32 months in office is 5.9% higher than that of Mauricio Macri's government at the equivalent stage. However, it remains 21.8% lower than Néstor Kirchner's confidence level. Compared to the two terms of Cristina Kirchner, confidence is 74.1% higher than the first term and 13.1% and 14.6% higher than the second.

The index has decreased by 2.8% year-on-year and 16.5% since the end of last year. August's increase was the second monthly rise in the ICG this year, following a 3.9% increase in June. Other monthly variations in 2026 included January (-2.8%), February (-0.6%), March (-3.5%), April (-12.1%), May (-1.6%), and July (-6.5%).

Of the five components used to construct the UTDT's measurement, four saw increases in August compared to July. The most significant gain was in "Concern for general interest," which surged 12.8% to 1.71 points. "Capacity" also increased by 0.3% to 2.29 points, and "General evaluation of the government" rose by 7.6% to 1.76 points. "Honesty" saw a 2.7% increase, reaching 2.52 points. The "Capacity to solve problems" component remained unchanged at 2.29 points.

The index decreased 2.8% year-on-year and 16.5% since the end of last year. August registered the second monthly increase of the ICG so far in 2026, the first being in June.
