Argentina secures Panama market access for citrus exports

Argentina has secured access to the Panamanian market for its citrus fruits, following an agreement on phytosanitary requirements between the two nations. The deal, announced by Argentine agricultural authorities, includes fresh lemons, mandarins, oranges, and grapefruit.

Panama is considered a market of "great potential" for Argentine agricultural exports. In 2025, Panama imported approximately $3.6 million worth of fresh and dried oranges, primarily from Peru, Chile, Spain, the United States, and Colombia. Mandarin imports reached $3.9 million, with similar origins.

Argentine officials stated that the opening of the Panamanian market for citrus represents a "new advance in the international insertion strategy of Argentine agro-industry." It aims to diversify both the export basket and the commercial destinations for national products.

Last year, Argentina exported $188.6 million in fresh citrus, with Russia, the United States, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Brazil as its main destinations.
