Argentine Football Annual Table: 2027 Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana Berths at Stake

The annual standings in Argentina's top football division for 2026 are crucial, not only for deciding one of the two relegation places but also for allocating nine coveted spots in the 2027 Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. Belgrano de Córdoba has already guaranteed its place in the continent's premier club competition next year by winning the 2026 Apertura tournament.

Further Copa Libertadores berths will be claimed by the winners of the Clausura tournament and the Copa Argentina. The remaining three Libertadores spots will be awarded to the top three teams in the overall annual table, which combines points from both the Apertura and Clausura stages. Currently, Independiente Rivadavia and Argentinos Juniors are tied with 35 points, followed by Estudiantes de La Plata with 31 points, who hold a better goal difference than Vélez.

Six clubs will qualify for the Copa Sudamericana. Based on the current annual table, these spots would go to Vélez (30 points), Boca (30), River (29), Rosario Central (29), Gimnasia de La Plata (29), and Independiente (27). Independiente is level on points with Lanús and Barracas Central but leads on goal difference. Gimnasia entered the qualification zone after a recent victory.

An important detail is that clubs securing international qualification through tournament victories (Apertura, Clausura, or Copa Argentina) can effectively pass on their annual table position to another team. This occurs if they also finish within the qualification spots for CONMEBOL tournaments based on their league performance. Belgrano, currently seventh, would vacate its Sudamericana spot if it qualifies through its Apertura win.
