Argentine jockey Évelyn Rodríguez secures first major win in Spain

Argentine jockey Évelyn Rodríguez celebrated her first significant victory in Spain on August 23, 2026, at the San Sebastián Hippodrome. Riding "Vamos Niño," she clinched the main race, the Basque Government Prize, a prestigious event for milers carrying a 24,000 euro prize for the winner.

Rodríguez, who began her career in Spanish racing in January 2024, has now accumulated twelve wins out of 120 races. Her victories include three in Madrid, two in Dos Hermanas, and the remainder at the San Sebastián track, where she appears to perform particularly well.

Remarkably, Rodríguez had never before ridden "Vamos Niño" in a competitive race, though they had trained together. The horse, a 4-year-old, has a strong track record, having previously secured second place in the 2024 Critérium Internacional and third in the Gran Premio Subasta in Madrid. It also placed second this spring in the Carudel race, the San Sebastián track's equivalent to the Basque Government Prize.

"Vamos Niño" ultimately won by a length and a half, outpacing the favored horses "Gold Index" and "Skytree," who finished second and third, respectively. The horse is trained by Jesús López, a professional who has achieved numerous wins at the San Sebastián track since 2024, often for the Madrid-based stable Caño Quebrado.
