Argentine journalist Ernestina Pais dies at 54 after train collision

Argentine journalist and television host Ernestina Pais, 54, died tragically after being struck by the Tren de la Costa train in San Isidro. The accident occurred when Pais, driving alone in her Honda City, reportedly crossed a railway with the barrier down, leaving the train conductor unable to stop.

Sources confirmed Pais's death at the scene. Police, firefighters, and forensic experts are investigating the incident at the crossing, which features a sharp curve. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

Adding to the tragedy, authorities from the Buenos Aires Ministry of Transportation revealed that Pais's driver's license was suspended until October 2027 for refusing a breathalyzer test.

Pais was a prominent figure in Argentine media. She gained fame as the sole female host of the television program "Caiga Quien Caiga" (CQC) and was previously part of "Mañanas Informales" with Jorge Guinzburg. Her career also included hosting "Desayuno Americano" and being a commentator on "Intratables."

Just hours before the accident, Pais posted an "Instagram" story expressing gratitude, "Thank you life," alongside a promotion for the play "El divorcio del año," in which she was starring. She was reportedly on her way to a performance in Tigre when the accident occurred.
