Argentine Painting Prize Finalists Announced, Exhibition Set for August 13

Argentina's art scene will be on full display at the upcoming Palacio Libertad exhibition on August 13, featuring the works of 24 artists. These artists, each representing one of the country's provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, have been selected for the 2026 Premio Federal de Pintura “María Calderón de la Barca.”

The prestigious award, driven by the National Secretariat of Culture, the National Arts Fund (FNA), and the María Calderón de la Barca Foundation, seeks to "valorize Argentine artistic production, strengthen the circulation of works, and promote the development of the visual arts sector from a federal perspective." This biennial distinction will also announce its three grand prize winners on the exhibition's opening day, with a total of fifty thousand dollars to be distributed among them.

Over 1,200 submissions from across the nation were meticulously reviewed by a distinguished jury. The panel included prominent figures such as Tulio Andreussi Guzmán, president of the FNA; María Paula Zingoni, national director of Museums and Heritage Management; Andrés Duprat, executive director of the National Museum of Fine Arts; Alberto Robredo (h), a board member of the María Calderón de la Barca Foundation and jury president; Inés Etchebarne, cultural management manager at the FNA; and Victoria Giraudo, an independent curator and researcher.

The María Calderón de la Barca Foundation, established in 1962 by Dr. Carlos Alberto Saráchaga, is a non-profit private institution dedicated to fostering art, culture, education, and solidarity in Argentina. For over six decades, it has maintained a consistent and committed effort, establishing itself as a significant cultural reference point.
