Argentine Rescuers and Doctors Depart for Venezuela After Earthquakes

A new contingent of Argentine doctors, rescuers, and volunteers has departed for Venezuela, offering humanitarian aid to regions devastated by earthquakes on June 24, 2026. The group, comprising 23 rescuers from the Emergency and First Aid Corps (CEPA) and Fénix Unit Rescue, along with four medical professionals from the Association of Venezuelan Doctors in Argentina (Asomevenar) and a lawyer, aims to bolster search operations for victims trapped in rubble. This mission responds to urgent pleas from families still hoping to recover bodies of the disappeared.

Venezuelan civil society organizations report ongoing disappearances, though official figures remain unreleased. The Argentine team will also provide medical assistance in temporary camps housing families who lost their homes. Their focus will be on chronic disease patients and preventing infections stemming from post-disaster sanitary conditions. This deployment is part of a larger effort, with nearly 300 individuals having traveled from Argentina since the earthquakes, including brigadistas, medical specialists, K9 units, and volunteers organized by the Argentine government.

Official Venezuelan reports indicate that the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes have claimed 5,208 lives and injured 16,740 people. Additionally, 17,907 individuals are homeless, with 23,820 housed in 107 temporary camps. State assistance has reached 128,324 families, and 856 buildings were affected, including 190 that collapsed. The region has experienced 1,388 aftershocks since the initial tremors. The Argentine government has also deployed a consular mission to assist its citizens in Venezuela affected by the emergency, sending specialized teams and substantial aid.
