Argos: Deep Grief at Funeral of 20-Year-Old Shot Dead by Police

A somber funeral was held for a 20-year-old man, Thodoris, who died from police gunfire during a chase in Argos, Greece. The ceremony took place on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in a small family gathering at the Monastery of the Nativity of Christ, near Larissa Castle in Argos.

The young man, who was on the autism spectrum, reportedly failed to stop for a police check in the Pygela area early on July 8, 2026, initiating a pursuit. According to reports, as the man continued to disregard officers' commands, police opened fire, and a bullet struck him in the skull.

He was hospitalized in the intensive care unit at KAT Hospital and fought for his life for four days before succumbing to his injuries on the evening of July 11. The incident has deeply shaken the local community.

Following the man's death, the two police officers involved in the incident have been detained, and the charges against them have been escalated. The young man's mother and relatives, who traveled from Russia, were present to bid him a final farewell. He was buried at the cemetery of Agios Nikodimos in the Agia Triada – Mermbaka area of the Municipality of Nafplion.
