Argos snap losing skid with 26-12 win over Lions

The Toronto Argonauts ended their three-game losing skid with a decisive 26-12 victory over the B.C. Lions on Saturday. Quarterback Nick Arbuckle stepped in for an injured starter and effectively led the offense, showcasing his readiness for action.

It’s never easy because you never have any reps (in practice) to really work the game plan and stuff. It’s so much fun playing with all these receivers again, all the guys I got to play with and battle with last year. I was just having a lot of fun being out there and having the moment to compete with them.

Arbuckle, an eight-year veteran, completed 13 of 20 passes for 134 yards, demonstrating solid performance despite limited practice reps with the game plan. He also contributed with two carries for 28 yards, making him Toronto's leading rusher. Arbuckle expressed his enjoyment of playing with his teammates again, highlighting the fun of competing together.

We talk about managing game situations. That’s why he’s here. He’s done that for us in the past. He just prepares so well. He’s a pro’s pro. He’s an extra set of eyes for me on the sidelines.

Starter Chad Kelly had set the stage for Arbuckle, leading Toronto to a 17-6 advantage with two touchdown passes to receiver Makai Polk before leaving the game late in the first half due to a hit. Head coach Mike Miller praised Arbuckle's ability to manage game situations, noting his preparedness and professionalism.

I made a point to really talk to him all week and try to install some confidence and belief in him. He was a great kicker in college. He’s only going to get better at this level. He already showed it out there today.

Adding to Toronto's success was rookie kicker Brady Lidster, who made a strong CFL debut. Lidster, filling in for veteran Lirim Hajrullahu, successfully converted four field goals from 48, 47, 37, and 24 yards, only missing a 43-yard attempt. Arbuckle commended Lidster's composure under pressure, expressing confidence in the young kicker's potential.

He’s running the ball. In my opinion, quarterbacks slide a little early. It was just a hit. I’m not trying to take anybody out. It’s unfortunate. You don’t want anybody to get hurt. I hope he’s OK.
