Ariadna Montiel reaffirms Morena’s support for Julieta Ramírez: “I have the highest opinion of her”

Ariadna Montiel, the national president of Mexico’s Morena party, reaffirmed her support for Senator Julieta Ramírez Padilla despite a report that the U.S. government is investigating her. Ramírez is currently seeking to become Morena’s coordinator in Baja California ahead of the 2027 election.

“I have the highest opinion of her,” Montiel said, while praising Ramírez’s work and her long-standing commitment to Morena. Montiel said the two had worked together when she served at the Welfare Secretariat.

The report, broadcast on Televisa’s evening news program, came from N+ Focus investigative journalists Alejandra Barriguete and Luis Villegas. They said they had obtained a written agreement between the San Diego County office of the U.S. Justice Department and the Morena senator from Baja California, who is currently on leave.

According to the report, the agreement would be a contract between a prosecutor and an investigated person or cooperating witness. It would allow the person to provide information about a crime in exchange for the U.S. Justice Department not using that statement directly against them in a trial. Ramírez has accused N+ of waging a dirty war over the report.

Montiel said Morena would submit its full candidate lists for all offices being contested in 2027 to the National Electoral Institute’s Candidate Integrity Verification Commission when the legal registration period begins next year. She said the party would continue its internal review so that the lists it sends to the institute are correct. Morena’s calls for candidates, she added, exclude people involved in illegal activities, those who owe child support, violent people, and anyone with links to criminals.
