Aris: Initial Fabiano assessment brings optimism ahead of AEK clash

Aris are waiting on medical tests to determine whether Fabiano Leistman can take part in Saturday’s important match against AEK in Nea Filadelfeia.

The Brazilian central defender left the game against OFI late in the match after taking a blow and needed assistance to leave the field. His departure caused concern because the 34-year-old remains one of Aris’ main options in central defense.

There is one early reason for optimism. The problem does not appear to be muscular, with initial assessments suggesting a hematoma around the quadriceps. Aris will still need the necessary medical checks before establishing the extent of the injury or estimating how long Fabiano may need to recover.

Fabiano is expected to undergo examinations by September 1. The results will tell coach Michalis Grigoriou whether he can count on the defender for the September 5 meeting with AEK. The limited time before the match complicates the situation, although Fabiano appeared to be in better condition after the OFI game.

Aris do have another defensive option. Bosko Sutalo is available to Grigoriou and could start in Nea Filadelfeia if Fabiano is ruled out. The club will now wait for the test results before knowing whether one of its most important players will be available.
