Aris Signs Thanasis Antetokounmpo on a Two-Plus-One-Year Deal

Thanasis Antetokounmpo is returning to Greece, this time in the yellow-and-black of Aris. The club announced a two-plus-one-year contract for the 34-year-old forward, who brings experience from both European basketball and the NBA.

Antetokounmpo began his career with Filathlitikos in 2011 before moving to the United States a year later to play for the Delaware 87ers, the Philadelphia 76ers’ affiliate in the NBA Development League. The New York Knicks selected him 41st in the 2014 NBA Draft.

He later played for the Westchester Knicks, Spanish club Andorra and Panathinaikos. At Panathinaikos, he won the Greek league title in each of his first two seasons and was named MVP of the 2018 All Star Game. With Andorra, he helped the club reach the playoffs after a 22-year absence.

In 2019, he returned to the NBA with Milwaukee, rejoining his brother Giannis. He remained with the Bucks until this summer, missing the 2024-25 season because of injury, and played 255 games for the team. He won the NBA title in 2021. A Greece international since 2016, he is now with the national team’s effort to qualify for the 2027 World Championship.
