Armed attack during funeral procession leaves three dead, one injured in Guayaquil

A violent armed attack shattered a funeral procession in northern Guayaquil on Thursday afternoon, leaving three people dead and one seriously injured. The incident occurred outside the Jardines de la Esperanza cemetery on Felipe Pezo Avenue.

Preliminary reports indicate that assailants opened fire while the funeral cortege was in progress. Witnesses reported that the attackers were in an H1 van, from which they unleashed their barrage of shots. Ambulances were dispatched to the scene to attend to the victims of the shooting.

Following the shooting, the National Police cordoned off a section of the road near the San Felipe roundabout, forcing drivers to reroute. This closure caused significant concern for students and parents associated with a nearby educational facility, many of whom had to leave their vehicles and walk to collect their children.

Authorities have maintained a presence in the area as investigations into the violent incident continue. The attack underscores ongoing security challenges in Guayaquil.
