Ecuador: Reconstruction of Events in Lizeth Bunshi Case Set for August 30

A crucial reconstruction of events is scheduled for Sunday, August 30, in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance and death of Lizeth Bunshi. The 28-year-old woman vanished in Quito on July 19, and her body was discovered five days later, on August 25, in the Machángara River in the Guápulo sector.

The upcoming reconstruction aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding Bunshi's death. Authorities found her remains in a ravine along the river. Forensic odontology confirmed the identity of the body just three hours after its discovery. The investigation initially focused on a voluntary disappearance, with the sole detainee being Christian V.

However, based on existing evidence and statements, Bunshi's family and their legal representatives suspect she experienced violence before her death. Freddy Ron, the family's lawyer, stated that the reconstruction will provide a comprehensive view of what transpired. He believes this will establish the necessary grounds to request a reformulation of charges.

Ron hopes the reconstruction will allow them to push for charges of femicide, which could carry a sentence of up to 34 years and eight months in prison if convicted.
