Armed Group Fires on Mourners at Culiacán Funeral; One Suspect Killed, Another Detained After Chase

A violent confrontation erupted in Culiacán, Mexico, when armed individuals opened fire on attendees at a wake held in the parking lot of a funeral home in the Jorge Almada neighborhood. The attack prompted a swift response from federal and state security forces.

Authorities were alerted to the gunfire and quickly dispatched military and state preventive police units to the scene. Simultaneously, law enforcement observed a white Kia vehicle, matching the description of the one used by the armed group, traveling nearby. As officers approached, the vehicle's occupants accelerated, initiating a high-speed chase.

The pursuit extended across several neighborhoods, marked by an exchange of gunfire. The gunmen attempted to disable pursuing official vehicles by scattering steel caltrops on the pavement. The chase concluded on the outskirts of a housing development, where the armed civilians stopped and engaged their pursuers in a firefight.

During the intense exchange, one armed suspect was killed, and another was apprehended. Authorities believe at least two other individuals managed to escape the scene.
