Armed man arrested near Trump's golf course days before scheduled presidential visit

A 38-year-old California man was arrested near Donald Trump's golf club in Rancho Palos Verdes, Los Angeles, on Sunday, just hours before the former president was scheduled to arrive for a fundraising event. The arrest occurred after plainclothes FBI agents monitoring the area noticed the suspect.

Agents discovered a loaded handgun and a magazine containing ammunition inside the man's vehicle. A subsequent search of his residence in Downey revealed a more extensive collection of weapons, including numerous firearms, ammunition, protective vests, and notebooks filled with material authorities deemed concerning. Officials have stated that no specific threat was identified, but the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities seized an improperly modified AR rifle, a .45 caliber 1911 handgun, two radios, a protective vest, and high-capacity magazines from the suspect's home. During the search of the suspect himself, investigators found a magazine loaded with 16 hollow-point rounds. The handgun found in his vehicle was ready to fire, with a round already in the chamber.

The suspect was already under investigation by El Segundo police for suspected robbery. He was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon and possessing prohibited ammunition. The case has been transferred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for review, with additional charges expected. This incident follows a separate event earlier this year where gunshots were heard during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, leading to the evacuation of President Trump and other officials.
