Army arrests three suspected gun runners in Zamfara, rescues six

Nigerian Army troops have apprehended three individuals suspected of gun running in Zamfara State, recovering a rifle and ammunition. The arrests occurred Sunday afternoon during a stop-and-search operation on the Kauran Namoda–Shinkafi Road.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly transporting the weapon to Yar-Galadima in Maru Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Lukman Sulaiman, 20, Nafiu Isa, 18, and Adamu Lawali, 60, were found with an AK-103-2 rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition concealed in a bag of millet within a Golf Wagon. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were transporting the weapon to Yar-Galadima in the Maru Local Government Area. They reportedly claimed an Alhaji in Gusau provided funds for the millet and that the firearm was intended for Tijjani Goguwa of Yar-Galadima. The Army is seeking Goguwa's arrest.

In a separate incident on the same day, troops at Forward Operating Base Anka rescued six individuals. The rescue followed an attack by suspected terrorists on a vehicle along the Anka–Gummi Main Supply Route. Troops intervened swiftly, disrupting the attackers' operation and forcing them to abandon the victims. The rescued individuals were taken to General Hospital Anka for medical attention, with three sustaining minor injuries.

They further alleged that the firearm was intended for delivery to one Tijjani Goguwa of Yar-Galadima.

These operations are part of the 1 Brigade's efforts under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt terrorist logistics and protect civilians in vulnerable communities.

The swift intervention by the troops disrupted the terrorists operation, compelling them to abandon all six victims and flee the area.
