Army chief warns military school graduates against social media misuse

Graduating students of the Nigerian Military School in Zaria received a stern warning from the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, regarding the misuse of social media. During the 68th Passing Out Parade, Shaibu, represented by Major General GM Mutkut, urged the young soldiers to remain disciplined and professional throughout their military careers.

You must be cautious in your use of social media and avoid disclosing unauthorised information that could compromise military operations or national security.

Shaibu emphasized the importance of operating within the tenets of human rights and strictly adhering to the rules of engagement and standard operating procedures. He stated that the six-year training regimen was designed to transform them into resilient, patriotic individuals equipped with the skills to serve the nation with professionalism, excellence, and integrity.

The Army Chief encouraged the graduates to leverage the career development opportunities available within the Nigerian Army, including sponsorship programs for higher education. He acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief, for strengthening the military's operational capacity and improving personnel welfare.

However, a significant portion of Shaibu's address focused on cautioning the graduates against the dangers of social media. He specifically warned them to avoid disclosing classified or unauthorized information that could compromise military operations or national security, urging them to be cautious in their online activities and remain worthy ambassadors of the institution.
