Army intercepts arms trafficking syndicate, seizes rifles in Kaduna

Nigerian Army troops have disrupted an arms trafficking syndicate in Kaduna State, seizing a cache of weapons during an intelligence-led operation. The troops recovered three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and four submachine guns concealed in a Mercedes-Benz vehicle at the Samaru Checkpoint in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

The operation, conducted in the early hours of Monday, was based on credible intelligence indicating the movement of illicit arms from Jos, Plateau State, to Niger State. During the targeted stop-and-search, one suspect attempted to flee but was shot and is currently receiving treatment at a medical center.

Preliminary investigations suggest the weapons were supplied by two suspected arms dealers in Jos and were destined for an undisclosed recipient in Niger State. In the course of the operation, one suspect attempted to evade arrest and was shot while trying to escape. He was promptly evacuated to Sector 7 Medical Centre in Kafanchan, where he is currently receiving treatment.
